Band Beginnings

709 played their first show at Darnell's Pub in Paradise on July 17, 2007. Darrin Martin & Jon Lane joined Cullam Bruce-Lockhart and brothers Jon & Shannon Drover during the winter of 2007 to put together a band that could entertain at the highest levels in Newfoundland. Rehearsals continued through the spring and culminated with the band playing on George Street and surrounding areas throughout the summer.

709 continued to play clubs, weddings and corporate events and by the fall, were gigging regularly at many of the cities top venues.

During the winter of 2008, 709 were toying with the idea of adding a horn section to give the group a unique sound. Rehearsals began with the Brackets in the spring. Members included Nicole Hand, Ashley Sheppard and Kalli Fraize. The first show with the Brackets was a benefit for the military at the Glacier on June 4, 2008. Ashley left for school in the fall of 2008 and was replaced by Catherine Taylor. Catherine moved to Fogo in the Fall of 2009 to teach music there. She has been replaced by Neil Sullivan. Kalli was replaced with Terry Campbell in February 2010.

Whether you have corporate, wedding or bar guests that need entertaining, 709 can provide the atmosphere to make your event a total success.
